There are a ton of things to do in Oaxaca - below are some of our favorites. Just click on the name for a link to the webpage (if one exists). Most of these are located in the historic center of Oaxaca and are walking distance form the hotels. For more suggestions, check out Trip Advisor's list.

Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca

This is our favorite place in Oaxaca and also the site of our wedding venue. On former monastic grounds adjacent to the Templo Santo Domingo, this garden was designed by reknown Mexican artist Francisco Toledo. Visits are by guided tour only, and explore the relationship between plants and humans. Tours currently run three times a week. Check the site for tour info.

Templo de Santo Domingo / Museo de las Culturas

A five hundred year old church that sits right beside the garden. It's truly a sight to behold for its architecture. There's a museum adjacent to it that traces the cultural history of Oaxaca.

Museo Textil de Oaxaca

Our favorite museum in Oaxaca. Whether you are into textiles, fashion, or architecture, this quaint museum has it all. Check out the courtyard and Contemporary Art Museum next door too!

Monte Albán

This pre-Colombian architectural site is on the World Heritage list. It takes anywhere from half a day to a full day to wander and marvel at the structures and the view down onto the Oaxacan valley. Perfect for just sitting on the old stone steps of the pyramid, stretching out, and gazing up at the sky. Any of the hotels can arrange a trip.

Hierve el Agua

Natural infinity pool! These are natural rock formations that resemble waterfalls. On top of one is a pool perfect for swimming and relaxing. Tours/rides available from numerous places around Oaxaca.

Markets and Cooking Classes

There are numerous markets in and around Oaxaca. They're perfect for wandering and getting lost in. Also, Oaxaca is famous for its seven different types of mole (sort of like a traditional stew, but delicious). There are a variety of cooking classes where you spend the day learning to make it and other traditional Oaxacan cuisine. Some of these classes fill up quickly, so it's best to reserve your spot well ahead of time.
